"True Conservative?!"
I'm sorry, I have to get this off my chest...I'll be brief. I saw a John McCain commercial on CNN the other day touting him as, get ready, the "true conservative" (no, it wasn't produced by the National Enquirer). Yeah, and Steve Martin's a Mormon. Of course, they highlighted his conservative aspects, but a TRUE conservative?! Wouldn't you actually have to be near the MIDDLE of conservative values, not radically to the left, to tout that label? I'll admit, McCain has some conservative aspects....maybe better described as "conservative inklings." But as far as I'm concerned, any Republican candidate who won't stand with the party's platform on preserving traditional marriage, who supports a Ted Kennedy bill offering amnesty to illegals, and who votes against Bush's tax cuts is NOT a true Republican. Oh, anybody remember McCain/Feingold? Yeah, true conservatism at its best... I'm sorry, McCain may have Conservative leanings, but he's certainly nowhere close to being able to advertise himself as a TRUE conservative. It's too bad Romney and Huckabee are splitting the true conservative vote, meaning we're going to end up voting for a full liberal or half liberal come November, and we can kiss goodbye any sort of a constitutional amendment protecting the family. And about that split vote with Huckabee and Romney....don't get me started on that either!
